Geospatial Decision Support Tool

The MCSC’s Geospatial Decision Support Tool helps trucking industry stakeholders in optimizing where and how to decarbonize their fleets by transitioning to low-carbon energy carriers. Developed by Danika MacDonell, MCSC Impact Fellow, alongside many collaborators, the tool synthesizes public data on freight flows, costs, emissions, infrastructure, and regulatory incentives. It integrates datasets from the US Department of Transportation, the Environmental Protection Agency, and the Energy Information Administration, among many others. The tool also utilizes a model developed by researchers in Professor William H. Green’s group at MIT to analyze lifecycle costs and emissions implications of fleet electrification across various regional and operational conditions. This comprehensive geospatial overview aids strategic decision-making, helping users develop effective and efficient fleet transition strategies, and evaluate infrastructure and incentives to support implementation.
