Zhongying Wang
MCSC Impact Fellow
Zhongying earned his PhD in Geography with a focus on Artificial Intelligence from the University of Colorado Boulder.
His research sits at the intersection of geography, artificial intelligence, environmental science, and public health. His work has contributed to projects including infectious disease forecasting for the U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) during the COVID-19 pandemic and high-resolution air pollution mapping for environmental exposure studies. Most recently, he developed GeoAI methods that combine satellite imagery with location encoders to improve predictions in areas with limited points of data. By leveraging widely available geospatial data, his research enables more accurate mapping of environmental variables across large regions.
At the MCSC, Zhongying will work with Professor Sherrie Wang to develop methods that integrate hyperspectral remote sensing and other geospatial data to map soil organic carbon as part of an MCSC seed award. As an MCSC Impact Fellow, he will also collaborate with MCSC member companies and the broader MIT community to identify challenges and develop practical solutions.
Zhongying is excited to apply his expertise in GeoAI to soil and agricultural research, deepen his knowledge of soil science, and collaborate with fellow Impact Fellows and researchers across disciplines to advance innovative climate solutions.
