Monday, April 13 | 1:00 – 5:00 PM | Location: MIT Museum
This workshop will explore opportunities to design future data centers such that they have reduced embodied and operational carbon and water consumption while making a contribution to surrounding communities. To accomplish this, data centers will need to be designed with new technologies, systems analysis techniques, and community engagement models.
Specific topics explored in the workshop include:
Materials and design strategies to lower embodied carbon
Materials and components supply chains and circularity
Advanced cooling systems that minimize water use
Integrated power and cooling systems
Waste heat reuse in communities
Community engagement and evaluation approaches
The workshop is a collaboration between the MCSC, the MIT Energy Initiative, and the MIT Climate Project in an effort to create synergies across data center-related research at MIT and engage MCSC members in them.
Facilitators:
Morgan Andreae, Executive Director of MITEI’s Future Energy Systems Center
Caitlin Mueller, MIT Associate Professor of Civil and Environmental Engineering; Associate Professor of Architecture; MCSC Associate Director
Elsa Olivetti, MIT Professor, Department of Materials Science and Engineering; Mission Director, MIT Climate Project; MCSC Strategic Advisor
